Top quality assam from one of the most traditional tea gardens in India

Dikom is located in the heart of Assam's tea-growing region and was once considered the "queen" of the old Jokai (Assam) Tea Company Limited. Even today, it is still a remarkable estate with very well-tended fields that produce high-quality tea.

The Indian tea-growing region of Assam is the largest contiguous tea-growing region in the world. It produces strong, malty black teas that are appreciated all over the world.
The history of DIKOM can be traced back to the Middle Ages in Assam. The local Bodo Kachar rulers discovered that the water from Dikom tasted uniquely sweet and flavoursome. Hence, the rulers named the place DIK-OM. Di or Doi means water in the Bodo language. No wonder that every cup of Dikom tea has a sweet aftertaste. This sweetness is unique to the teas produced in this area.

Dikom is located in the heart of Assam's tea growing region and was once considered the 'queen' of the old Jokai (Assam) Tea Company Limited. It is still a remarkable estate with very well maintained fields and 73% clonal area. The estate has the advantage of having high quality clones such as P126A, N436, S3A3, T3A3, CP1 and Tenali 17. Dikom has an intensive field renewal programme where high quality clones are planted. The yields from these young tea bushes contribute significantly to the quality of the estate.
Fun fact: Dikom is the favourite tea of the famous pianist Ludovico Einaudi.

Which tea cultivars were used for the tea?

The cultivars used were P126A and N436.

What makes this tea so special?

One of Dikom's guiding principles is: "Quality is never an accident, it is always the result of intelligent efforts". This philosophy, together with a workforce-centred management approach, makes Dikom a special garden where the loyalty of the workers' families is one of the cornerstones of the tea garden's success and quality. The tea is made from a high proportion of quality P126A and N436 bushes, which give the tea such a well-balanced cup that no milk or sugar needs to be added.
