The national drink of Latin America - yerba mate

Traditionally prepared in a gourd and enjoyed through a straw (nowadays made of metal), mate is also becoming increasingly popular in this country. Not least thanks to its stimulating caffeine content and unique, spicy flavour with a special roasted note.

Mate in South America

The daily consumption of mate is widespread throughout South America - and has been since long before colonisation. Nowadays, mate is often cultivated, but a large proportion is still harvested from wild plants. The way in which mate tea is consumed or produced varies slightly from country to country in South America. Increasingly, mate tea is enjoyed as a cold drink, especially in northern South America!
