Lemony and tangy refreshment

Mild green tea meets tangy lemon - this refreshing tea-fruit-herb blend transports the senses to sun-warm Italy. Wanderlust guaranteed!

This trendy tea was inspired by the Italian lemon liqueur Limoncello, a traditional classic of southern Italian cuisine. It is mainly produced on the Gulf of Naples, along the Amalfi Coast and in Sicily. The Ligurian version is called limoncino.

Traditional production of Limoncello

To make limoncello, the aromas of the lemon are extracted from the lemon peel with the help of alcohol. The essential oils obtained aromatise the alcohol, which is then diluted with a water-sugar solution. This process is divided into several steps and takes several weeks in total. First, the lemons must be washed and peeled and the white parts below the peel must be cut out. Otherwise, these would cause a bitter taste.

Only the outer yellow peels are used for limoncello. These are put into a container with 95% alcohol and left to macerate for about 3-4 weeks. This process is called maceration time. As soon as the maceration period is over, an infusion of heated water with sugar is added to the lemon peel/alcohol mixture. After another week of infusion, the liqueur can be filtered and the limoncello is ready to drink.

Classical forms of presentation of Limoncello

Limoncello is classically drunk ice-cold, either straight from the freezer or on ice. As it has a fairly high alcohol content of 30-35%, it is often served as a digestif after a meal. Limoncello is also very popular as a special ingredient in desserts, cakes or ice creams. In Liguria, for example, it is used to prepare the Ligurian Tiramisu al Limoncino.
