Rolled tightly into balled shapes, Gunpowder tea was ideally suited for making the treacherous yearlong passage to Western Europe. A chestnut profile much like Chun Mee, with a pronounced astringency punctuated by vegetal sweetness. Ordinary but addictive! A second infusion is usually possible.

A hint of osmanthus in the air

This tea garden is divided into many small plots, between which many trees and shrubs have been planted, including the peach-scented osmanthus tree. The resulting biodiversity helps to comply with the organic guidelines for sustainable cultivation.

This organic tea garden is located a good hour outside Changsha in Hunan Province and covers a total area of almost 250 hectares. Green tea is mainly processed here.

Several lakes separate the individual areas where the tea plants grow. As it can get quite hot in summer, the collected rainwater is used for irrigation. Trees also provide shade and attract birds, which in turn eat insects - an important key element in organic cultivation.

TeeGschwendner's endeavours alone led to the tea garden being certified by Naturland, which was no obstacle after several years of organic cultivation. In the region, the tea garden is a so-called "demonstration plantation", which other tea farmers can visit to learn from the sustainable and successful cultivation and processing methods.
