Mate drinking vessel, natural medium-dark brown
Original South American drinking vessel made from pumpkin shells for 0.35 litres of mate tea.
The mate drinking vessel (also known as a cuia) is made from a small dried pumpkin and is therefore a plant-based product.
During the drying process, the pumpkins are burned from the inside. This can cause black spots on the inside, but this does not affect the quality. Any fibre residue in the drinking vessel can be easily removed with the drinking straw. The ring at the top serves to protect the pumpkin rind and is made of food-grade steel (surgical steel).
Instructions for use:
In the mate-drinking countries of South America, it is traditional for everyone to prepare their own mate drinking vessel. The following procedure is traditionally followed:
- Fill the drinking vessel about one-third full with mate tea.
- Pour hot water over it.
- Leave to stand for one day.
- Pour out.
- Repeat this procedure twice.
The drinking vessel is now ready for use. The flavourings of the tea have penetrated the inner walls, reducing the bitter taste of the pumpkin skin. This ensures that the aroma of the mate tea remains unadulterated and becomes more and more enjoyable with each use of the mate vessel.
Cleaning:
When cleaning, it is important to remove all tar residues. If necessary, the residues can be scraped out with the drinking straw. The drinking vessel must then be dried. The best way to do this is to place it upside down on the radiator after rinsing so that the warm air rises and dries it.
Drinking straw no. 3221 is not included.
